Hello again, folks.
After taking a little break following the end of my 9-year run at WFAN, I’ve decided to get back to doing what I love—and that’s writing about the New York sports scene.
For those new to my work, I write from the perspective of a diehard fan. In this forum, I will continue to “keep it real” and not sugarcoat things just because I have such a deep rooting interest. Believe me, when my favorite teams lose, the bitterness will flow. If you’re a similar fan, know that I feel your pain to the point where I consider writing as a form of therapy.
The focus of these columns will be on the teams I covered for the FAN—the Brooklyn Nets, the New York Jets, and the New Jersey Devils. However, there will be certain days where the mood will strike me to venture into other topics. Feel free to be selective in your reading choices.
I do ask that you subscribe to the “newsletter” as a means of keeping track of readership. Since many of you have gotten used to reading my content for free, I’m not asking for a subscription fee.
As for fans of my old “City Game” Nets-centric podcast, who knows if some opportunity arises down the road that’ll bring me back into the podcast world, but for now, you’ll find all my takes in short spurts on this site without having to listen to my voice for 40-odd minutes every week. I also hope to be more active on Twitter @SteveLichtenst1.
Still, this is a great time to get back into the writing game. New York sports is on the rise after nearly a decade in the dumps—no championships since the Giants in 2012, the area’s longest drought in 100 years. That could end soon, even if the Yankees and Mets fall short. Coming up, fans expect great things from the Nets and Islanders while all the other franchises should at least be on the upswing.
So, thank you to all who sent me kind words this summer and for continuing to support me through a subscription to this newsletter.
Glad to have you back Steve. A sincere cheer for health and success in your endeavors going forward
